The Conservation Internationa (CI) has adopted a new strategie since 2010.
Some development projects have been implemented withthe local communities associations to assure the preservation the protected areas by reducing the pressure on the forest resources. This program, called NODE, funds some revenue generating activities through NGOs.
As an example, the local communities succeded to protect a red frog specie called Fohisokina, at Ivato-Center commune in Ambositra. This site was dedicated for the local and international scientist.
The local community association (COBA) at Ambondrombato, in the neibourhood of Sahambavy – Fianarantosa has started a chicken farming project. From that activity, they could set up a common rice warehouse.

Ecotourism: the named COB Fivoarana and AZIFA preferred to plant Ravintsara trees – which oil is highly demanded in the international market. They have planted 2000 trees .

At Tolongoina, one of the rail station village between Fianarantsoa and Manakara – the local community has set up a new protected area of 140 hectares. Lemurs, orchids and palms are found there. The landscape is decorated by a big waterfall. In 2010, 263 tourists were visiting the reserve.
Villagers also host the tourists at their home and promote their local products.
