Funds for birding research from Sherrit International Corporation (mining project).

A research project on the birds of Madagascar and their habitats inside the Ramsar Torotorofotsy will be implemented during a 4-year period.
This mining project, one of the share holders of Ambatovy – a huge mining project extracting nickel inside the rainforest of the eastern slop e- has granted 12000USD to ASITY, a Malagasy Ligue for the preservation of the birdlife – a subsidiary of the Birdlife international.

The birdlife of Torotorofotsy will be used as an indicator of the biodiversity living around the ecosystem where the mining station is settled and to ensure the sustainability of the natural habitats and resources as well as the use of the soil.

The population living around this project will be benefiting from the rational management of the natural resources of this wetland.
